As a dance maker, performer, and dance educator, Chaery Moon shares her internal thoughts and feelings through body motion. Working across live performance and new media, she mixes elements from both Eastern and Western cultures in creating work. Capturing time, exploring transitions, and expressing intent are inherent her movement vocabulary, which melds ballet and contemporary dance.
Throughout her creative procedures, she embraces and trusts the unknown, freely allowing a nebulous idea to evolve into a concrete interpretation. She cherishes collaborating with other genres of artists in order to catapult her sequences of body movement into a deeper realm, surrounded by light, sound, and visual design.
She is a certified Cunningham Technique® instructor and actively participates in projects affiliated with the Merce Cunningham Trust, transcending Merce’s legacy. Recently, she performed "Beach Birds" for the Beach Sessions Dance Series and appeared at the MERCE/MISHA/MORE Film Event at Baryshnikov Arts.
Her accolades include winning the Tanzolymp in Berlin, and she holds a BFA from The Juilliard School and an MFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. As the founder of Chaery Moon Dance (CMD) since 2017, Moon has presented her dance works and films across the U.S., and South Korea. She has been honored with grants from the Korean government, the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and Downtown Brooklyn. Moon’s collaborations have been featured in the New York Times, Schön! Magazine, and Vogue Hong Kong, and she has contributed to Dance and People, and Dance magazine in South Korea.
